my ‘other studio’

my ‘other studio’

My Process

So my day job requires me to sketch, draw, and render realistic and even hyper-realistic images. My education taught me how to draw and paint people classically/realistically, and that bored me.

Therefore my studio time, early in the AM, is dominated by non-figurative abstraction or cubist exploration. You can hear me yell ‘FREEDOM’ every time I sit down to paint.

I find twentieth-century art more interesting and there is still more to explore there than in current art movements. Yeah, I’m an Art Brat.

Both here and on the social media sites below where I share what I am reading, studying, and exploring.

Art is something to try, suck at, improve, fail more (which I share my screwups), then find new small victories. Then keep wrestling with current works in progress, then slay that dragon that has been snickering at me from the corner of the studio. This struggle helps us find the courage to stand up to those canvases in the back of the studio that mock us.

To Me, Art is the constantly changing equation/recipe of a concept, a composition, a meaning, some technique, a choice of color palette, or some changes because the original idea didn’t work. Some more discoveries, then more realization and more changes, then and only then it may result in something only you can judge its validity within the context of who you are and the stage of your skills.

Art is for you and those that enjoy the same small slice of joy that you enjoy seeing and experiencing.
